I'm a Gleek

I am absolutely hooked on the television series "Glee".  I love, love, love it!  I didn't get to see the series when it first aired, so I'm checking out the first season from the library.  My kids and I can't get enough of it.

I wasn't sure about it when I saw ads about the show, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.  You really have to love musicals, too.  The cast really does the singing and they do an excellent job.  They all have so much talent.  The extra footage on the DVD's is really fun to watch also.  These kids were chosen from auditions all over the U.S.  It's cute to see their reactions to their first hint of stardom.

If you are unfamiliar with "Glee"...it's about some high school students trying to keep a struggling glee club alive at their school.  They decide that they need some "cool kids" to join to increase the popularity of the club.  They get some talented football players and cheerleaders to join in the fun.  The show also touches upon some of the issues that teens face today (teen pregnancy, drug use, teen love, disabilities, etc.)  There are also some fun adult "monkeyshines" going on in the show between the glee club director and the cheerleader "cheerios" coach.

I'm excited to see the second season of "Glee".  I want to finish catching up on all the episodes so I can start watching it.  If you get the chance to watch this you really won't be disappointed.  If nothing else, you'll get to listen to some of your favorite tunes sung by some talented youth.

"I haven't laughed so hard in ages." -- Mary Alice, from The Food Network's Ace of Cakes.

This book is absolutely one of the funniest books I have ever seen!

My friend at work (the library) told me about a funny cake disaster book that she had seen and wanted to share with me.  We were talking about Barbie cakes for an upcoming program at the library and I happened to mention that I had seen some pretty interesting cakes when I was looking for images.  Anyway, that sparked her memory of this book.

It's a book full of funny photos of cakes gone horribly wrong.  Some are (amazingly) professional bakeries, but there a slew of photos submitted by people just like us.  You won't believe some of the funny wording mishaps along with just plain ugly icing disasters.  I couldn't stop laughing...I had to finish reading it later.

I don't know why this strikes such a funny note with so many people (myself included) but this book is really a great "treat" to read.
